Union Minister and BJP national president JP Nadda on Saturday expressed deep grief over the tragic Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives and affirmed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has assured a strong and decisive response.
Speaking at a public gathering, Nadda said, “We all observed two minutes of silence and prayed for the peace of the departed souls. An unfortunate incident has occurred involving two families from Pune. I am going to meet their families today.”
He emphasized that the entire nation stands united in grief and anger, stating, “The entire country is angry and saddened by this incident, and Prime Minister Modi has said that a befitting reply will be given.”
Earlier in the day, Nadda offered prayers at the Shrimant Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati Mandir in Pune, Maharashtra. Referring to the attack, he said he prayed to Lord Ganesha to grant India strength and wisdom during this time of crisis. “I prayed that, through his strength and wisdom, India can emerge from this hour of crisis. A befitting reply will be given under the leadership of PM Modi. I have also prayed for PM Modi ji to have the strength to lead the nation through this,” he added.
The terror attack took place at Baisaran meadow in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, leaving 26 people dead. In response, India has taken significant diplomatic steps, including the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty with Pakistan, a move decided during a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) chaired by Prime Minister Modi.
Meanwhile, there have been reports of fear and panic among Kashmiri students across India. The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) reported receiving over 1,000 distress calls, with many students expressing concerns for their safety. Emergency helpline numbers have been set up to assist affected students.
However, security agency sources have refuted rumors of harassment against Kashmiri students and traders, confirming that all Kashmiri citizens across the country are safe and that any claims to the contrary are part of “fake news” being spread by “mischievous elements.”
